Notice to Web-TV Users
Following a recent periodic renewal/upgrade of TheVillages.net SSL (Secured Sockets Layer) security certificates, it was reported that many of our existing Web-TV users could no longer access the Golf Information System. Our technical staff has been in communication with the Technical Support Specialists with Microsoft, who sells and supports the Web-TV product line. Microsoft states that these issues are the same on any web-sites that are utilizing new/upgraded security certificates and that the problem is not unique to TheVillages.net or any of our applications. They did not provide us with any information that led us to believe that Microsoft would be making any changes to address this widespread issue.
Unfortunately, we do not see any viable solution to our customers who are using Web-TV as their access to the Golf Information System via TheVillages.net. In order to continue to provide a “secured” environment for the vast majority of our users, we are required to maintain the latest in security measures. We apologize for the problems this has caused our Web-TV customers and we are willing to cancel any Web-TV accounts and credit those accounts from August 25th (date of upgrade). If you are a Web-TV customer and wish to exercise this “cancellation” option, please contact our Support Department and someone will be willing to facilitate your request. We will honor these cancellation requests from our Web-TV users through September 30, 2008.
Again, we sincerely apologize and hope that you understand that these issues are not in our control.
